Lewes's Local Florist Since 2015

I'm Ken Norman, owner and chief designer. I'm AIFD certified through the American Institute of Floral Designers and PFCI certified through the Society of American Florists. Earning those wasn't quick, and it wasn't guaranteed. What they gave me, more than anything, was the education and the confidence to say I know what I'm doing.

Three generations, and one attempt at escape

My grandfather started a flower shop in Bergen County, New Jersey. My father took it over in his late teens, after his own parents died, and built it up to four locations. My mother taught elementary school before the children came along, then joined the business and ran the office while my father ran the design room.

So I grew up in it. Our holidays and our vacations were the floral business. The family went to FTD conventions while the kids had their own events laid on. And I'll tell you the truth: I didn't love it. The love of flowers came much later.

I went to college for interior design with a strong architectural bent, and worked in that field in South Florida for a couple of years, putting some distance between me and flowers. Then my mother called and asked if I'd come back and help through the spring holidays. Easter, Mother's Day, proms, recitals, communions, weddings, graduations. Someone working for my parents said I should look at AIFD.

That was the turn. When I got involved with AIFD I realized everything I'd learned in college, the elements and principles of design, all of it meant for rooms, applied directly to flowers.

Getting in wasn't a formality. I submitted a portfolio to be judged on my understanding of design principles. My sister wrote the check for the photographer and told me I'd better get in. I passed the first phase, then flew to Denver in October 2001, weeks after September 11th, with a bag full of floral tools, to design on site in front of the membership committee. Years earlier I'd sat the FTD Master Designer exam, a full day of written and design tests. I failed care and handling the first time and went back and passed it. Later I earned PFCI through the Society of American Florists, a twelve-page application and a recorded presentation the committee critiqued line by line. Along the way, a wedding I submitted to Florists' Review won Best Reception in their Picture Perfect Wedding competition.

In 2015 I moved to Delaware, lower, slower Delaware, as people here say, and started Floral Inspirations in my basement. I thought I'd wing it and see what happened. There were already two or three florists in Lewes and at least three more in Rehoboth. Then people started showing up at my door, and I understood there was room for another real shop.

We're still being discovered. People walk in and ask how long we've been here.

Who We Are

Crafting Your Moments, Petal by Petal at Floral Inspirations

Our Blooming Beginnings
Hello and welcome to Floral Inspirations! If you’ve found your way to our little corner of the internet, it's probably safe to say you love flowers as much as we do. We're guessing you're also curious about what makes Floral Inspirations tick. So, let's dive into our story and get to know each other better, shall we?

I'm the owner and chief designer here at Floral Inspirations, and my love affair with flowers began as a kid in my family’s flower shop. I was always there, tying ribbons and filling vases. It was like growing up in a fragrant, colorful wonderland. But it wasn't until after college that I decided to really dig deep into the world of flowers. I went on to earn my AIFD (American Institute of Floral Designers) and PFCI (Professional Floral Communicators - International) certifications. Think of it as getting a Ph.D. in flower language! That’s how committed I am to offering you the best flower delivery service in town.

The Nitty-Gritty of Flower Gifting
Here's the thing, when it comes to flowers, there's more happening behind the scenes than meets the eye. We've noticed that some companies out there act like local florists but aren’t really what they seem. They use names similar to ours, then deliver flowers that don't match our quality. We think it’s time you knew the difference. With Floral Inspirations, every bouquet, arrangement, and single stem matters. We take immense pride in our work, making us the florist you can trust.

A Bouquet of Memories: Our Favorite Customer Story
One story we love to share is about a young man who came into Floral Inspirations looking quite nervous. He had plans to propose and needed the perfect bouquet but didn’t know where to start. We sat down with him, walked through some options, and together we designed a floral masterpiece for his big question. A week later, he returned, this time with his fiancée. Both were so touched by the flowers that they asked us to create the arrangements for their wedding!

Your Go-To Florist for Flower Delivery
So why make Floral Inspirations your first choice for flower delivery? Because we're not just any florist. We're your local, trusted florist. Our expertise and passion go into every bouquet we craft and every flower we choose. Your special moments become our special moments, and we can't wait to be a part of them.

From cheerful birthday blooms to heartfelt "just because" bouquets, Floral Inspirations is here to brighten your days and sweeten your celebrations. Give us a call or swing by the shop. We can't wait to meet you and talk all things flowers!

Ready to create some floral magic together? We can’t wait!

FAQs - Floral Inspirations

Ken, or one of our designers. John has been here since 2019 and Frank since 2020. Both know the shop's style and standards. Our drivers Jack and Bill hand-deliver, and Lars and Taylor keep everything else moving.
Call us. If you're unhappy, or the flowers don't last as long as they should, we'll collect the arrangement and replace it. That's the policy, not a favor.
Because the person who takes your order is the person who designs it, in Lewes, from our own cooler. If we need to substitute a stem we call you first, and if anything's wrong you're talking to us, not a call center.

Lewes supports us, so we support Lewes

I'm a member of the Chamber of Commerce, and my rule is simple: anybody who supports my business, I support back. I'm involved with Lewes in Bloom, and when the Tulip Festival comes around I run tulip-arranging demonstrations. We turn up for the garden tour and the Christmas house tour. And every Labor Day weekend we provide the floral décor for Beach-a-Palooza, a big local fundraiser we've been part of for close to ten years now, with around 20% of the bill going back to whichever local charity our client chooses.

You'll find our work around town too. We're on the preferred vendor lists at Rehoboth Beach Country Club and Lighthouse Cove in Dewey Beach, and we do a lot of events at the Honeybee Barn, the Covered Bridge Inn and the Lewes Yacht Club, right around the corner from the shop. We deliver to funeral homes, churches and cemeteries across Lewes, Rehoboth Beach, Milton and the surrounding towns, and we coordinate directly with the funeral director on timing so the flowers are in place before the service, not during it.

And in July and August we buy from our local flower farmer. It costs a little more. The product is beautiful, and I'd rather the money stayed with the grower.
